Level cap - GW2
I know it hasnt been announced, but what do you guys think the cap should be (if one at all)
I was just wondering this because apparently there have been "hints" of no level cap. Which personally I would hate that.
My opinion: cap 50
Thanks,
Kole Aurow

I like the 20 level cap. Leveling is grinding....bleah.
Game mechanics may decide in the end and some folks like a high level to shoot for but in the end it hardly matters.
This has been an argument on MUDS...multi user dungeons...all text and one of many pre-cursers to the games we see today but. Some folks liked super high levels so they could do more damage. Wow. I just hit for 2500 hit points, meh. No different than a match where 25 or 250 takes the same percentage of health.

Agreed. I have yet to see a "good" arguement for a high level cap other then the fact that so many people think big numbers = better in an RPG. Its the same reason why people like 20/20 SUNDERING instead of measily 3/1 vampiric (only 3... pfft... 20 is way more then 3, and therefore more awesome).
In truth though, they probablly will raise the level cap to say... 50-60ish, just to draw in people used to other MMOs like WoW and WAR.

I mean the difference in PvP vs PvE focus; that has a massive impact on the design on the game.

make it 20 or 50,i like 20 because its a pvp based game and spending endless hours grinding levels so you can pvp is bad,and who really wants to be stuck under max level for ages?
if they make lvls endless in gw i will be one of many who dont play,if they make it like wow where it takes 2 months to reach max lvl i most likely wont play either.

50 would be great, but i think they are leaning towards no cap.

I dont really have a problem with 20...but id rather have it up to 50. I personally just like leveling up and constantly getting better. Makes me feel good. Its too easy to get lvl 20, and i just dont feel accomplished only getting there.
But, even if they do leave it at 20, id still play because i like GW
And also. In WoW it takes far longer than 2 months of constant grinding. Took a pal of mine 8 months to hit 70, and now they just expanded it to lvl 80.

ewww... i hope they make it so boring grinding doesnt get too imba. cos that would seriously suck... people that grind all day shouldnt get any benefits over those that play the storyline/dungeons etc.

20 cap is best, as i dont like grinding, if you want bigger lvl count, buy WoW with expansions and grind yourself to lvl 80

Wait, you mean it will be from my PoV, like Oblivion and other Elder Scrolls games? I'm not sure if I'll like that.

Get rid of the "experience points/leveling up scheme" Lets try something else. Instead of saying I'm a Level 12 Mesmer/Monk, It should be I'm a Messmer/Monk Pioneer.
Instead focusing on how much xp you need to go up a level, it should be more focused on the type of skills you use. So lets say you kill 500 Charr using Illusion about 90% of the kills, Your Illusion attribute would go up a point or two.
It sorta reflects training and combat experience, the more you use the skill the more talented you become. You can also switch 25% of the attribute points you gained in Illusion to any other attribute your character has. This allows for growth in other areas.
I would also get rid of professions/class and just allow us to pick 7 attributes and 1 primary attribute, this allow more flexibility. I'd also allow changing attributes but at a cost of losing 25% of attribute points previous gained and 50% loss for changing your primary attribute.

Wasn't it confirmed in an interview a while back it had "infinite" levels?
Also I strongly doubt it'll be first person perspective or require actual aiming of spells, arrows, or weapons - the MMORPG formula is extremely rigid, I'd even say stale, and wouldn't allow for that.

In my opinion, it depends on the experience gaining speed.
If it is like Prophecies, lvl 20.
If it is like Nightfall, lvl 30.
If it is like Factions or Eye of the North, lvl 50.
However, if there is going to be a higher level cap it must never, ever, EVER go past level 100. And 100 is too way high unless you have Factions-like leveling (yay 3k experience for true farming, aka kneeling 3 times).
However, things like how much the PvP and PvE are connected also matters. If it is like Prophecies in the PvE/PvP aspect where they are nearly one in the same, then lower is better, however they said that at least for the World PvP that all attributes and armor will be put to match the attributes and armor of the person in the match with the highest numbers - so if that's how it is in all PvP, then levels doesn't matter one bit in PvP therefore no need to look at the PvP/PvE relation.
So, in short, it depends on how fast you get experience.
Slow experience=low cap
average experience=medium cap
fast experience=high cap
